Bogota Latin Bistro had a very special visit from some honored guests on Small Business Saturday, which was held on November 29, 2014. NYC Department of Small Business Services Commissioner Maria Torres-Springer joined SBA Administrator Maria Contreras Sweet at Bogota to discuss the impact of immigrant entrepreneurs and Small Business Saturday.

“Bogota Latin Bistro strongly supports Small Business Saturday and we’re happy to have with us today two great woman who have been wonderful supporters of our efforts here at Bogota,” said co-owner Farid.

Maria Torres-Springer, Commissioner of the NYC Dept. of SBS, has a demonstrated record of expanding small business opportunities, with a history of building relationships with community, government and private businesses to support economic development projects throughout New York City.

The Department of Small Business Services (SBS) makes it easier for businesses like Bogota in New York City to form, do business, and grow by providing direct assistance to business owners, fostering neighborhood development in commercial districts, and linking employers to a skilled and qualified workforce.

Maria Contreras-Sweet became the 24th Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration and a member of President Obama’s Cabinet on April 7, 2014. Contreras-Sweet is a successful entrepreneur, business executive, and state cabinet official. Throughout her career in the public and private sector, she has been a champion of diversity, access to capital and equal opportunity for all Americans.

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) was created in 1953 as an independent agency of the federal government to aid, counsel, assist and protect the interests of small business concerns, to preserve free competitive enterprise and to maintain and strengthen the overall economy of our nation.

Bogota Latin Bistro thanks both Commissioner Maria Torres-Springer and SBA Administrator Maria Contreras Sweet for stopping by on Small Business Saturday and for their dedicated work helping small businesses in New York and nationwide.
