Every Monday morning on Launchpad, part of the Joan Hamburg show on WOR Radio (710 AM), "serial entrepreneur" Liz Hamburg and her mother Joan, bring the WOR audience inspiring stories from small business owners and entrepreneurs from those who are just starting out to the many who have already made it. All of them have war stories to share and tips of what to do and not to do. They are also offering expert advice on how to finance your business, how to market it, how to deal with employees, health insurance and lots of other important topics. So join us, Bogota Latin Bistro owners Farid Ali and George Constantinou, as we are interviewed along with Daniel Miller, author of "Starting A Small Restaurant", on Launchpad this Monday between 9:30 and 10 am on WOR 710 AM.

Through Snow, Sleet, Rain & Hail

Picking Paola up for work for the Blizzard of 2006 New York CityNew York was visited 2 Sundays ago by what I hope will be its only blizzard of 2006. It covered the city with a record 28" of snow that Sunday which certainly didn't help our brunch business.

We woke up that Sunday wondering what to do. The city was completely covered and I knew that it would be difficult for our employees to get to work. Should we call them all up and tell them to not come in? Should we open with a skeleton crew? Why hadn't we made a contingency plan the night before?

We decided we would open and began calling all the employees scheduled to work that day. Some were already on their way in and others we gave the day off. Then we began making the rounds to pick up the employees that hadn't left their homes yet including Jesus, our cook and Paola, whom you see here climbing over a mountain of snow to get to the car.
